Don’t give them your money: A whiny white girl wants to be an actress, A whiny white guy wants to open a jazz club. They both have weak vocals and have no chemistry. In short: they re boring. They start dating, the whiny white guy mansplains to the whiny white girl about how jazz needs to be “pure.” He gives a WILDLY oversimplified history of jazz, says it started it in “a club in New Orleans”, never mentions that it originated by and with black people. Never once mentioning that it stems from blues which came directly from spirituals and slavery. Makes no attempt intrinsically tied to the Black Struggle and experience but he bitches about how it needs to be pure. And then has the fucking audacity to be made a BLACK ARTIST friend of his who is trying to reinvent the genre by adding different instruments but by god does he take the fucking job that his Black friend overs and takes that money when they strike it big. There is some dancing and drama because they’ve both “changed” and they don’t “know who you are”. They break up, 5 years passes. She is famous and married. He has a club. She accidentally goes to the club with her husband, there is a weird, sad and creepy dance sequence where we relive the entire film but they end together in this sequence. It cuts back to them being all emotional about it and then the film end. Oh! And you never see his Black Friend™ again. There. Hopefully I have saved everyone the $10 I cannot get back. This movie isn’t just overhyped it’s legit a lie. It’s terrible. Ryan and Emma should fucking pay me back. I should send them my fucking PayPal.
